I'm coming into some extra money within the next week and plan to reward myself with a new handgun.
Here's what I'm looking for:
1) A highly concealable semi-auto in a serious caliber. I have a Kel-Tec 3AT already and am looking for something in a more potent caliber. I'm thinking 9 mm, minimum. Lately, I have been wavering between the Kel-Tec PF-9 and the Kahr PM9. The Kahr is about twice the cost of the KT, but money is not the deciding factor. I'm a bit leery of the KT because it is a new model, whereas the Kahr has been out for years. The Rohrbaugh, is it still made? Is it still about a grand for one of them? Any other ideas?
or, throw caution to the winds and buy;
2) A "pimp gun"! I don't have anythng that's shiny and sexy with a bunch of bells and whistles. I don't have a 1911. I don't have an all-metal stainless or nickel pistol. Are we talking Miami Vice here? Any suggestions if I go nuts and decide to go this route?

Well, highly concealable really limits your choices. One you didn't mention is the new Walther PPS. It compares with the Kel-Tec and Kahr in size, but will be available shortly in .40S&W. Right now, only the 9mm is available. There's a thread on it here somewhere. I've never seen a Rohrbahr outside of the internet. Another way to go may kill two birds with one stone. Perhaps one of those very compact 1911 style handguns. Para makes a tiny .45. (Hawg?) I saw an article for a compact springfield in the gun rags lately too (no surprise, they loved it). I have to admit that they piqued my interest, but I'm a bit concerned by the cycling and frame battering difficulties that seem to go with this type. Hmmm... pimp gun. That's a Glock on it's side right? Maybe you could pick up one of those Desert Eagles in .50AE with the gold finish. I remember SIG made a model (232?) with a goofy rainbow finish too. Oh wait, I got it: You should get an engraved Jennings! ;D

First let me show you my "pimp gun", which I've carried a lot the last few years. Sorry, it is a Taurus Model 85BGRC Usually, I start on topic and wander around, but this time I started with my wandering. I won't address your second item because there are a lot of guns out there that look cool. If you want something that just really shoots good, my first choice would be the STI Targetmaster in 9mm (lots cheaper to pull the trigger than 45 ACP). Now for concealed carry: I would not recommend the STI LS9. Mine is going to get a really good cleaning, then back to the range on Tuesday, and then more than likely back to Georgetown for its second trip back to STI. It is making my S&W 22A look reliable. I have the Kahr M9098, which is different from what you are interested in, and it hasn't really knocked my socks off. I like the PF-9 much better, but I did really notice the recoil in the PF-9. However, it is nothing compared to the S&W Airlite with 357M ammo. In fact I let my buddy put 6 rounds of 454 Casull through the Ruger Alaskan then shoot the S&W 360PD. I wish I had a Camcorder recording the expression on his face. He shot two rounds and that was enough. I haven't put many rounds through the PF-9, but I do like it, and I'd not hesitate to recommend it. Although the Wilson Combat ADP had to go back to the factory for a new trigger bar, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it either. I've found that I shoot it better than I do the PF-9, and more so than the Kahr, which I find the most inaccurate (again this is with me shooting it).

Get a Colt "Defender" in .45acp, and be done with it!

Callahan; The options for smaller carry pieces are more than ever before, especially with calibers. My smallest carry is a S&W 640 Centennial, hammerless, 38 Special +P, revolver. I carry this revolver in a Galco "Concealable" open top belt holster, Bianchi #9 or #17 spring type shoulder holsters. I once had the same revolver setup in .357 magnum. The optional boot grips and five round cylinder contributes to the concealability of this revolver , while the no snag no drag hammerless design contributes to the rapid presentation of the weapon from underneath clothing. The option of personnalizing this particular design can be done with grips, an action job, or a complete package. This is just one of many options for carry. I still have an interest in obtaining a Colt pocket pistol one day.
