I've heard very little about the newer .357SIG and was wondering if any of you have the scoop on it... How does it compare to the .357Mag?

I only know what I have read from sources you could no doubt easily find yourself, so FWIW, it seems the .357SIG is ballistically similar to .40S&W, as far as velocity, k/e, etc, which would obviously place it well below the power levels of .357 Magnum loads. For the same diameter slug, and similar power levels, I'd say the 9mm +P would be far more practical, because you can practice with cheap 9mm.

The standard bullet weight for the 357 sig is 125 grains, which displays velosities up to around 1450 fps. Compared to the 125 grain .357 magnum, the 357 sig keeps a steady pace. Several differences separate the two cartridges; the 357 sig is actually .355" in diameter, verses .357" for the .357 magnum. Another is the shorter bottle necked cartridge of the 357 sig assist in feeding for the semi auto pistols, while the .357 magnum is primarily designed for use in revolvers. The 357 sig is a cartridge that shares chamberings with the .40 S&W, making it compatible with most .40 S&W magazines and pistol frames. Because the .40 S&W and 357 sig do not share the same bore diameter, drop in conversion barrels are required. The 357 sig is phenominal because it displays .357 magnum performance in a 9mm size semi-automatic pistol. I have bought several pistols in the .40 S&W, only to drop the 357 sig barrels in upon the day of purchase. Does the 357 sig's report sound similar to the .357 magnum, you might ask ? Yes; It will definitely get attention, especially with so many rounds firing consecutively. The flat trajectory of the 357 sig is very accurate for those who prefer the higher velosity cartridges and smaller diameter bullets. Here is a link to some more info on the 357sig. www.pete-357.com/357.defend.htm

The numbers I've seen put the upper ft/lb readings of the .357sig in the 530 range. Just this stat alone is significantly higher than any 9mm.
I owned a 9mm, then sold it and bought a 357sig. When I shoot it, it has harder and sharper recoil than my .45ACP, or 40S&W. This really is an awesome round, and I trust my life to it.

Mikolev; I am very proud to have someone post a message of testimony of the 357 sig; I have been alone on this for almost two years on these pro board forums. Blackdog purchased a 357 sig barrel for his 239. I love shooting this cartridge.

I notice in the ad for the Glock 31, 32, and 33 they say that now you can get "Magnum Performance with the .357 auto" cartridge . . . ;D

Right, Callahan! It is a little amusing. Glock would not want to advertise a .40 S & W or a .357 Sig. There is however a .45 GAP.

We are having so much fun with the 357 sig, with all the ammunition companies, and firearm manufacturers having jumped on the band wagon, it's been a hell uv a ride in acquiring the pistols for it. It's not just the 357 sig, but the .40 S&W which goes along with the package. I'm really getting in the mood for picture time again.

I sold my Berretta FS92 9mm last year as I was planning on something that hits harder. I also have a 45APC so I have not replaced the 9mm as yet with the 357 that I want. The cost is just too much at $1400.00 for the model I want new. I will have to sell a few other guns to get even a nice used one if I can find the model I want as well. That's not a problem as I do have a few I don't need actually which are quite rare. Trick is to find the right gun at the right price.
