Ammo would be in a 9mm, thinking about hydra's. Anyone know where I can get some data or someone share personal preferences.

I have seen the referenced site--they do very thorough work and are pretty scientific about their methods...and I tend to agree with them. I had conducted my own tests some years ago just to satisfy my own curiosity about certain kinds of ammo. My own methods may not be as formal, but consisted of old jackets in front of either plastic bags (like what bread and newspapers come in) filled with water, tied shut and stacked into a home-made frame or wet telephone books (soaked in buckets for days then pipe-clamped together by the edges). I then cranked out some 9x19mm, .357 Magnums and .45 ACPs into this setup from about 10' distance. I like Triton rounds myself, and Glasers work pretty well, too (but the cost rules them out for me). Not to belittle Hydra-shocks, but curiosity got me to remove the little post in the middle of the HP cavity and try them that way and there was no real difference I could see in the way they performed. I also like Eldorado (PMC) Starfires, but I haven't seen them in 9mm yet (although if I carried a 9 regularly I would want it stuffed full of them or the Tritons). What I really miss is Black Talons.... But short of going out and firing up some Al Qaeda martyrs-in-training or gangsta scumbags (which the authorities for some reason take a dim view of ) I'll go with my test results and hope that I'm not ever forced to conduct a real impromptu "field test".
