Okay, since I'm new to this wheel gun stuff...
Looking at the S&W website at their 686 they mention that it is .357 Magnum or ".38 S&W Special". Is there something special about ".38 S&W" or is it just the same as .38 Special?

TMan; You will find the 38 attached to several different cartridges, throughout the list of relics from the later part of the 19th century, earlier part of the 20th century, and throughout the British military forces, which favored the 38/200 and 38 S&W ( Which is different from the Special). Americans accepted the higher velosities of the Special with overwhelming response, which S&W developed by lengthening the 38 long colt case from 1.035" to 1.155" back in 1899. The 38 Special will be referred to as the 38 S&W Special on occassions. As is the case with the 44 S&W Special and the .40 S&W cartridges. John Taffin tells it better than I can.www.sixguns.com/tests/tt38spcl.htm
