Have a Chinese SKS 7,62x39 mm and a Win 30-30.Are these rounds close in power to 200 yds? Which round better for medium size deer? Thanks

They are about the same IMO. Shoot what you like, and are most accurate with. 200yds is probably about the limit for these, for a deer.
muzzle velocity and bullet weight are about the same ~150-154gr @ 2100-2200fps.
on a side, but important note, if you use the 7.62, make sure you have a cartridge loaded for hunting, not just target practice. (well this applies for the 30-30 too)

Everybody better review their ballistics table . There is quite a bit more downrange energy in the good ole' 30 - 30 in comparison to the 7.62 x 39 (especially at 150 yds. and beyond).

For better downrange power, I would look more toward the Springfield 30-06 over either of the 2. Of course, where I live, I can't hunt with a rifle.
Using the info from PMC.
....................................................................200yds ...............................MV/ME ............................V/E 7.62X39 125gr PSP......2320/1495 ..............1817/894 7.62X39 125gr FMJ......2350/ 1493 ..............1794/893
30-30 150gr FNHP ......2100/1469 ...............1478/728 30-30 150gr FNSP ......2159/1554 ...............1552/804 30-30 170gr FNSP ......1965/1480 ...............1457/827
At least according to this table, the edge goes to the 7.62. I have seen some other tables somewhere, that gave the edge to the 30-30 by about the same margins.

It's like comparing retarded kids at the special olympics...
Sorry, I'm just used to the long distance shooting in Idaho. ;D
