The antis out there have been campaigning hard against a new gun, the Herstal Five seveN. It is oddly enough chambered in 5.7X28. The campaigns that I have seen have not been against the ammo, but the gun...hmmm. At any rate this ammo is touted to have:
less recoil, 1/3 of the 5.56 mm ball round and 2/3 of the 9 mm ball round.
It is smaller, can hold 20 rounds in a handgun, 50rds fit in the same magazine length as a 30rd of 9mm.
A flat trajectory up to 200 meters (Yes, I double checked, it said meters.)
It will penetrate modern fragmentation vests and helmets at ranges up to 200 meters.
Out of the Five-seveN 2,133 fps
Weight of projectile 2 g (31 gr.)
Copied right from the webpage about the Five-SeveN
Enemy personel, even wearing body armor can be effectively engaged up to 200 meters.
(I'm thankful I'm not in a situation where I have to engage any enemy, but if I'm engaging an enemy at 200m, my handgun is not going to be my first choice!)

... Enemy personel, even wearing body armor can be effectively engaged up to 200 meters. ... Later on, it also says that the "effective range" of the handgun is 50m, which is a bit more realistic. www.fnherstal.com/html/Index.htm

A Local Store has one for sale for $900. The ammo is like $1.50 per round... when you can find it. The store doesn't have any right now.
The gun is very light and almost totally plastic. It feels like a toy, but it has a nice grip. It also comes with three mags.
