I picked up my new-to-me Sig P239 (.357Sig) today and the seller threw in a box of Winchester Ranger Law Enforcement Ammunition. The Winchester website says that this is LEO and not available to the general public. Any info would be most appreciated.

So if you post the address of the prison you will be in, we can bake you a cake with a file in it. ;D
If you plan on using the Sig as a defensive weapon, then you might want to hold onto this ammo, and buy something cheaper to shoot at the range. Once you shoot the 50 rounds, you probably aren't going to be able to buy anymore.

I think Tman is being slightly facetious...does anyone know the real scoop on this ammo? Or is this something that I need to do a search on because you've already talked it to death and I just stepped into some sort of mall ninja trap? -flamdrags

If you were involved in a shooting with that ammo, it might be used against you. A criminal lawyer could say that since you were using ammo that was not legal for you to be using, it proves you are a less than ethical gun owner with a disdain for all things legal.

Flamdrags,
You won't find anyone giving you a hard time here. It's a pretty friendly group. Just a bit of good natured humor.
I'm not entirely sure about the legality of using the ammo, but I wouldn't use ammo marked "Law Enforcement Only" when you can get Corbon, Hydra-Shok, etc that is equally effective. Sounds like you'd be potentially putting yourself in a bad situation unneccesarily. I think we did discuss it once before, but I'm not sure. Besides, we've been known to rehash things before...
I personally think that there's little difference between being hit with lead wadcutters vs the latest super-duper dragon taloned titanium jacketed anti-personnel round anyway. Especially if you miss ;D
Shot placement is everything.

Thanks for the input fellas... I posed the question on another forum and an (alleged) LEO said that Winchester chooses to market it to LE, but there is nothing illegal about it's use by "civilians". I suppose at this point it's not so much about my desire to use this ammunition rather I'm interested in finding out about something i don't know about.

Like you mentioned earlier, according to the Winchester website, it's not available to the general public. I suppose that dosen't make it illegal to have, just difficult to obtain. www.winchester.com/lawenforcement/

It's no illegal to own or shoot, it's just Winchester being little b**ches.
I can however see it being used against you in court though ... probably not the best idea. Just run through it at the range and get yourself some PowRball.
