5ontarget; I checked my ammo inventory for the Speer Gold Dot, with the nickel plated cases, and for 20 rds. the price sticker is $13.95. I've fired this with other defensive ammo in my 226, 229, and 239 with excellent results in accuracy and smoothness on recoil. I wish I could afford to shoot nothing but the Gold Dot loaded bullets. The maunfacturer number on the box is 23918.

Explain please - what are the virtues of having nickle cases?

This sounds like a deal almost too good to be true. Your price was $13.95/20, this price is $4.18/20, if you buy 1000rds. That's as cheap or cheaper as I get my typical ball ammo for .357sig. TMan, I don't know the virtues of nickel cases, that's why I asked. Maybe cheaper to make? different pressure thresholds, higher/lower? I'll try to look into it a little more too.

I'm pretty sure they are actually nickel plated brass, rather than solid nickel. But I've been known to be wrong before...

Nickel will not tarnish like brass. Speaking of revolver and rimmed cartridges, leather cartridge loops will turn brass cases green if left in for a certain amount of time. Nickel plated cases are much friendlier to the leather.

This ammo is "reclassified" by Speer. They supposedly have quality control issues with a very small percentage of primers. The worst that can happen is they won't go bang. No problem at the range. Some guys are saying no problems in thousands of rounds. It would be good to practice with these and pick up a box of regular production Gold Dots for carry. I think I am going to order some up. I have a P229 in 357 Sig that I recently purchased and it's getting hungry.
My dilema is that I want to reload these and I have heard some say nickel is not good to reload because of potential flaking. Ammoman also has some brass Federal's for the same price.
