I read somewhere that you could shoot 32 S&W Long in the Nagant, so I bought some that was made by Magtech. It looks like the Nagant ammo, but it isn't corrosive. (Since then I have discovered that Military Gun Supply has Fiocchi Nagant for $25 for 50 rounds).
Comparing the two cartridges, the 32 S&W Long is half the length so it doesn't extend beyond the cylinder face like the real Nagant ammo does. (Fiocchi calls it 7.62 NAGANAT, by the way).
At the range on Thursday there was a guy there with his uncle. The uncle was a bit long in the tooth, but had recently bought some revolvers and was shooting them.
He had a Ruger Single-Six that was chambered in 32 H&R and was trying to shoot 32 S&W Long through it. He was having extreme difficulty extracting the brass. We are talking the use of pliers here!!!
He was using Winchester 32 S&W Long ammo, which I looked at and said: "that doesn't look like a 32 S&W Long to me". He showed me the box, and he showed me in the Ruger manual (Yes, he actually took the manual to the range. I thought people just threw those in a drawer somewhere), where it says that you can shoot 32 S&W Long. I felt a little foolish at this point and doubted if what I had at home was really 32 S&W Long. I checked this morning and it was, but was from Magtech.
However, mine are the LWC bullets and the Winchester were LRN, which probably was the source of my confusion.
The question remains: what the heck was going on that the cases were splitting with the Winchester .32 S&W Long ammo?
