I've used these lamps for removing very small splitters from my fingers and appreciate their use for allowing both my hands to be free while working.
TA brought up the fact that he uses one for doing fine detail checkering and other close up work on his guns. These lamps, with their swinging arms and fluorescent illumination is not as expensive as I would expect; being only $29.99 from Harbor Frieght.

[/size]Here is the one I use. It is on sale at www.harborfreight.com for $30.00. I originally got it to aid in metal checkering. When you get finer than ~20 LPI, I find it difficult to see what I am doing. If you cross the diamonds in metal, it is really difficult to impossible to correct. Wood is a little more forgiving and I usually checker in the 16-20 LPI range. I find I use this lamp quite often for inspecting my guns. Well worth $30.
