You can find .22LR almost anywhere. Even some hardware stores.
.22 shorts I've seen as well. Not often, but gettable (yes, I made that word up.) I've seen the .22 birdshot stuff too.
There also exists a .22long though. Has anyone ever seen this ammo available? Why would anyone buy it? I could infer that it was available before .22lr was made, and perhaps designed primarily for revolvers; but that's just conjecture on my part. Anyone have better information?

MLB, the 22 Long has pretty much gone by the wayside. I haven't seen it in quite awhile. I'm going to Sportsman's Warehouse this afternoon, and they have a ton of 22's. I look and see if they have any.
Personally, I haven't shot it since I was a kid squirrel hunting. The 22 Long was then cheaper than 22 LR, so since my Ham Radio equipment was keeping be broke, I'd shoot the cheapest stuff I could find in my rifle.
I had a Mossberg semi-auto that I traded a filter choke for (I was able to use a smaller choke, and this was a big one). It had the nasty habit of firing off in auto mode on occasion. Normally a kid would like a gun that did that, but I saw my pennies going out the barrel without hitting anything.

I'm back. They had 22 Long ammo that was made by CCI. What they didn't have, which is why I went there, was any 7.62x39 or 7.62x54R. I don't really need the 39, but I do need the 54 - I'm down to 20 rounds left.
