The P-01 is CZ's latest and greatest 75. It's a very new gun, just came on the market recently. As I understand it, the Czech National Police use it as their duty weapon. All P-01s come with an integral tactical rail. They are smaller than a 75, but not by much. They are also suprisingly heavy.
A feature that I like is the decocker. Instead of a safety, you can decock the pistol to a half cock position. It can't be accidentaly fired. With the hammer in half-cock, the pistol is double action. After that, it's single action all the way.
My gun was covered in protectant/grease/whatever when I got it. Disassembly was surprisingly difficult. The pin that holds the slide release lever in place does NOT want to come out. I managed to get it out using the base of a magazine (the CZ recommended method) and cleaned the gun. Reassembly is easy, just like most automatic pistols.
At the range, I ran 112 rounds through it. I only had one fail to fire. It was a bad primer. That primer had a nice big dent right in the center. Zero fail to feed, no jams at all. I even had a 12 round speed run.
Most of the CZ-75s have very good accuracy at 25 yds. I can't say so much for my marksmanship this morning though. I couldn't hit anything. Of course, the P-01 has a slightly shorter (1/2 inch I believe) barrel than a 75. I attribute it to my having an off day.
At the closer ranges (15 yds and 7.5 yds) accuracy and precision were excellent. I could easily keep all shots within the 8 ring and I had many quarter sized groups of 4 rounds. The three dot sites were very easy to aquire and made for good rapid fire shooting.
This is a fine gun and one that I really enjoyed using. I am looking forward to more shooting with it and finally getting my CCL.
