OK, you've heard about it and seen it. The review is back and it is good.
For those that aren't in the know, I got this at a 30% off sale at Academy. At the price almost anything was a fine purchase. Academy list was $338 or so. I know Bersa make a good carry sized .380 and I almost got that, but I've had bad experiences with .380s and I wanted a slightly larger 9mm.
The Thunder was well packed with the mandatory fired case. Surprisingly, the gun was fairly dirty out of the box. I don't think it was cleaned after firing. Just coated in grease and shipped. Sigh. Only one magazine is included, but it is a 17 rounder. A second mag will cost $59 from Bersa.
I must say that it an attractive gun as well.
At the range, I fired a brace of 17 defensive loads (Winchester hollow points) and thought it did very well at 7 yards with hot loads. The double action pull was terrible, long and hard, but it was my best single shot of the day falling dead center. The next sixteen single action shots were low and to the left... my fault.
The single action pull is fabulous. It's almost as good as my dad's CZ-75 Champion and my Trailside. Very light, with just enough pressure to say, 'hey, I'm about to go'.
After a hundred round box and the original 17 rounds, I had no misfires, fail to feed, fail to eject, or any problems at all. I fired a mix of 7 and 10 yards and generally fired 1 double action with 4 single action. I did fire 20 rounds as double only to start loosening up that long pull.
The sites are excellent, much better than a CZ. The front site has a nice wide white stripe, while the back site has a white line running all the way around. It's very easy to line up shots and see, even in poor light and very bright sunlight.
The gun shoots just where it is pointed and I had several five shot groups that were one big hole. My skills still need work, but I'm learning and getting better. The barrel is tight with no wiggle in battery. The grip is excellent and the controls are easy to operate with one hand (except don't try to decock it with just your thumb, that hurts).
This is a sweet gun. If you can, try it out. I'd put it up against just about anything (including a CZ) and dare anyone to laugh at it for being a Bersa.
This link will take you to the specs and some pics
