I would like to lighten the double action trigger pull on my Ruger P89. If I reduce the hammer spring a couple pounds, do I need to increase the strength of the recoil spring? Seems like I should because the hammer spring would contribute some energy consumption during the cycle. Anybody here do this on a P-series Ruger?

I've got the special edition P89, and man it is a serious tug in DA. I don't know if you'll need to increase the strength of the recoil spring, but you won't regret it if you do. It decreased my perceived recoil, and improved my second shot speed some.

Installing a lighter hammer spring will actually take work off the recoil spring that you already have. 5ontarget is right about the heavier recoil spring absorbing recoil, it will also reduce the battering of the slide to frame and strip the cartridges from the magazine with more force.
