Even though Krustyman views it as a cheap POS, I like my 12 ga. Mossberg 500 Persuader. It is a nice option for a truck gun and may be my first option in the middle of the night. It came with a pistol grip which I haven't tried yet. I can see a couple of leather straps making a nice sling/holster for this on the back of my headboard.

I just picked up a basic no frills 590 a week ago. I haven't even shot the thing yet. Plan on getting that done this weekend.

Some people might have deeper pockets for a 12 gauge pump, but for what I need in one, my Mossberg serves it's functional purpose for now. I'll have pics of one I pieced together with only $24. dollars total investment; Half of that was spent on a sling. ;D

Put some 3" Magnum shells in it and get a watermelon or even a 1 gallon jug filled with water and you'll have yourself a hell of a time. ;D

My current shotgun is a Browning Auto-5 built during WWII. Unfortunately, the only thing I would ever use a shotgun for is home defense and the A-5 just isn't suited for it. It's like four feet long and weighs 75 pounds.
I'm going to sell it or trade it for a CZ.

Well, my 500 broke on only its second round of birdshot. But perhaps more significant is that when younger, I thought nothing of banging my shoulder with cheap or hard kicking scatterguns {and rifles} with near indifference to recoil protection & now I'm suddenly paying the piper with painful shoulder problems in middle age. I'd only suggest not being pennywise and pound foolish, and try to scrounge the $$ for a decent GAS, not recoil, operated 12 or even 20 gauge. Honestly, I don't believe they're any more or less reliable, and they are easier to shoot well. I wish I'd done it years earlier. And, a PAST pad or Kick Killer butt pad don't make it any more or less 'macho,' lol. Just more sensible.
