I've acquired all the parts for my Sept. 13 AWB-sunset rifle:
RRA A3 upper RRA stripped lower RRA lower parts kit Bushmaster 1/7 M4 14.5" barrel with bayonet lug kit Phantom flash suppressor Bushmaster M4 handguards RRA 6 pos pre-ban stock RRA enhanced bolt, carrier and charging handle
Total of all the parts? $623.00. I did also get an M7 bayonet so I could take a photo before I weld on the flash hider.
Assembling the lower (minus stock) took ~30 min with instructions, and I've never done it before, and am quite useless mechanically.
I'll take my Aimpoint off of the 20" hbar and put it on this rifle. The 20" deserves a real scope.
I'm taking the 14th off to go to the range for a little runnin' and gunnin'. ;D

Must... resist... temptation to put on stock... must resist.
M7 bayo has not arrived...
I had a liberal ask me why I liked black rifles this weekend. I told her I own them because of some very clever and genuine people 200+ years ago decided that freedom is an important thing and that it belongs in the hands of the people. And that because I'm an American the constitution guarantees my rights to own such rifles.
That the writers were white, British and men of integrity is of no matter. They meant these rights to apply to all American citizens.
On Monday I met a 16 year old girl with her father at the range. She owned a Dissipator-style 20" bushmaster AR. She was hitting .5" groups out of her irons with it. I almost got a little teary-eyed.

I have always thought would be the way to go for ARs and 1911s a "how to" thread would be great for AR's. I am curious about building my own AR as a project. Is it hard to get into? I know just the basics about the AR rifle.

Not hard at all to build on your own. The guy who helped me barrel it used a barrel wrench and some moly grease. Truly an infantryman's weapon. ;D To put together the lower you can use the firing pin and a hammer. I will post. I am tired from building all night and shooting all day. Between the responses on AR15.com, the group shoot today and other things I'm guessing we probably built close to 15,000 evil black rifles today. Some guys at the shoot built four new rifles last night. The honorable Senators Feinstein, Schumer, Clinton and of course "call me a terrorist you fraud and traitor?" Kerry may collectively bite me. This is similar, but not exact. The differences are minor, mine has a larue mount Aimpoint, and its not a Bushmaster.

(to legally bring it to 16") or will threading it on be enough (or secure with screws)?

To build your own AR: www.ar15.com/content/guides/My flash supressor was welded on permanenty and legally by a FFL gunsmith. I did not need to wait until I took a pic. The barrel went directly to the smith who welded and pinned on the FS. I was ignorant before I thought the bayo screwed in between the FS and BBL. Parts were new. Try finding build parts used at a decent price near the ending of a ban... LOL. I am not going to ass-rape prison... for any reason besides protecting me and my kin. .

Third AR just done last week. Call me an AR sleeper.
SPR variant, 20" bush hbar chrome barrel, A4 upper, RRA lower receiver, 2 stage trigger, larue spr mount, leuopold VXII 3-9x40.
;D
From a book I recently read. I don't agree 100%, but he has a point:
A pistol is a piece of s**t. It will serve you well by protecting you as long as it takes for you to reach a rifle.
;D

I'm really interested in building my own AR15. What's the ballpark cost and skill level needed to do this? I would want something taylored to the varmint gun. What is the average price of a lower receiver and where is a good place to look for one? Thanks for the help.

What is the average price of a lower receiver and where is a good place to look for one? Thanks for the help. Bushmaster, Brownell's, and DPMS sell parts. Bushmaster has a video tape showing how to assemble the parts into a complete rifle, for around $10. dollars. The DPMS parts can be found through www.deltaforce.comThe lower reciever requires an FFL, or you can have it shipped through a licensed FFL gun dealer. The cost varies, depending how you purchase the components. If you order the complete lower, the cost might be higher than if you purchase only the reciever and build by finding good deals on the stock, grip, and trigger components elsewhere. Same goes for the upper, with the exception that it does not require an FFL for purchase. Main thing is to have a bolt that mates with the barrel chamber. Building an AR-15 type sporter is mostly assembling parts, unless you obtain the blank unfinished lower recievers.
