I needed to compare the .308 with the .30-06 but didn't want to spend a lot .Got a new Remington 7400 semi-auto .308 for $416.27 and found (4) 10 rd mags in .308. Iron sights work well ,added a scope for distance an will try 200-300 yd for accuracy on Wed. Loaded Win 150gr, they worked fine, then Spanish +American Eagle which didn't extract.Shot Win again worked fine.Called Remington they said AM should work and maybe a burr in barrel keep shooting to break barrel in.40 more Rd's of Win then AM worked like the Win ammo. The Spanish..NOPE.Rifle is 7.5 lbs and an easy shooter.Might have the barrel + stock cut down sorta a scout type rifle.I find the .308 less recoil and easy to handle.Any advice? Thanks.

livnhel; One concept I've seen for a Scout Rifle is with a bolt action Remington Model Seven. An idea I read about from Jeff Cooper is the foward placement of the scope, which enables an unobscured view of the target area as the rifle is being brought to the cheek. An eye relief of around 14 inches is necessary for a forward mounted scope.

For a scout rifle, I'd stick with the .308. I think it is more practical, and generally will have less recoil...especially when you start making the gun lighter.
