Everyone know what "allocated" means? I didn't - I found out.
The distributor business is competitive just like dealerships. The dealer has a choice of distributors to buy from, and of course the distributors want their business.
When there are certain products that are in short supply, the distributors court the favor of the dealerships by allocating those items to the dealers that are providing them with the most business. Capitalism - so sweet.
So, my dealer was allocated a S&W M&P-15. Notice that I said "was allocated". In case you aren't aware of S&W's entry into the AR-15 field, here is their picture of one:
You can read about it at their site: tinyurl.com/cgoqp
Or, a short synopsis:
Model: M&P15
Caliber: 5.56 mm NATO / .223
Action: Gas Operated Semi Automatic
Capacity: 30 Rounds, 5.56 mm or .223
Overall Length: 35" Extended / 32" Compacted
Stock: 6-Position Telescopic
Forend: Thermo-Set M4 Handguard
Sight Length: 14.75"
Barrel Length: 16"
Barrel Twist: 1 in 9"
Weight (No Mag): 6.74 lbs.
Trigger Pull: 7 lbs. (approx.)
Upper/Lower Material: 7075 T6 Aluminum
Barrel Material: 4140 Steel
Chromed Components: Barrel Bore, Gas Key, Bolt Carrier
Receiver and Barrel Finish: Hard Coat Black Anodized
Front Sight: Adjustable Post
Rear Sight: Adjustable Dual Aperature
Notice my highlighting on the trigger pull. It only lacked a couple of oz from being 8 lbs, and it was very creepy. After a little Flitz with the Dremel, and a little reforming of the hammer spring, it is now 6 lbs.
After April 15th, when I pay off the blood-sucking leeches, I may buy an upgraded trigger control for it. However, just dry firing it now, there is just a hardly perceptible amount of creep, so I may just leave it alone. Personally, I'd rather have a heavier trigger that is crisp than a lighter trigger that is creepy, but that is just me.
I wasn't planning on buying, but being allocated is almost like being on sale. ;D
