I picked up the new rifles yesterday along with a Tasco EXP that they had in stock, and they threw in the rings.
I adjusted the trigger on the Remington 504-T to 1-1/2lbs, but had to relieve part of the stock because the adjusting screw was sticking out and prevented the complete insertion of the barrel assembly. I had wondered why Remington said you must have a gunsmith make the adjustment, when all you needed to do was back out a screw and then put nail-polish on it. I then mounted the scope and bore-sighted it. (By the way, this is strictly a range gun. I don't consider 1-1/2lb trigger to be safe.)
The Savage Mark 1-FVT came with a Williams Peep Sight, which I had to mount. Since I had the bore-sighting stuff out, I decided to sight it in as well. That begs the question: How? According to the instructions with the SL-100, when you are bore-sighting the scope, you put the cross-hairs on the target lines, which are 1-1/2" above where the red-dot laser is hitting. However, they say with open sights to set the sights to where the laser is hitting i.e. 1-1/2" lower than when using a scope. They also say that the 1-1/2" setting is for when the centerline of the scope is 1-1/2" above the centerline of the bore. Which is what messed me up with the SU-16 and the high-rings putting the bore 2-1/2" above the centerline.
Now on the Savage, the center of the peep sights are 1-1/2" above the centerline of the bore, so shouldn't I use the same mark on the target as I would with a scope?
