I was never happy with the fire control group in my WASR-10 (AK-47). Another thing I didn't like was the lack of the bolt holding open after the last round. Therefore, I ordered a new trigger/hammer from Florida Gunworks: tinyurl.com/g86v5After installing the parts, it did drastically improve the trigger feel, but the bolt still doesn't lock open after the last round. After a Google search (I'm learning), I find out that the AK-47 doesn't lock open after the last round. So I now have as much money in the AK that I have in my 3 SKS's.

Shot it today - still sucks. I was informed by my shift replacement Range Officer that it isn't a target rifle. He mentioned that he had ammo, so he took the gun and put 20 rounds through it.
I asked him if I had wasted my money, and his reply was: "Yup, sure do love my SKS."
I guess the USSR replaced the SKS with the AK's because they were cheaper to make and could shoot full auto. (Could the SKS?)

About once or twice a year I get the bug for an AK. I've been able to supress the urge for a couple years now. The bug was starting to gnaw on me again. Thanks for squashing it Tman. I have always enjoyed shooting my SKS, and I'm pretty sure I'll shoot my SKS better than an AK, and I don't need more than 10rds in a magazine. Besides, ammo has been harder to come by for the past several months. I'm down to ~1500rds of x39. I usually wait until I'm down to a couple hundred and order a case. But I think I'll order some more soon, and get on someone's backorder log. Then again, the mauser bug has been sucking on my wallet more recently. Maybe another case of 8mm....so many guns, so little time.
I'm also looking at a hex receiver, matching #, Tula, M38 also anothe91/30. The M1 is ordered, and I'll get an M1903 in the next couple weeks.
Hmmm, the AK is definitely on hold.
The SKS can be full auto, if the firing pin sticks forward and you get a nice series of slam fires. Not a controled form of full auto. I'm sure there is someone that has made a full auto SKS in his/her basement/garage, but I don't know of any production auto SKS's.
