Hello all. Long time no see. Sorry for the absence, I know I’ve been missed lol.
What is the general opinion of clip-draw carry here so far as safety and security of your firearm when concealing? I have a great UCH for my G19 that I love (bought from our own TA) so I’m not real interested in clip draw for myself but it’s just more of a general information gathering type deal. Though in the summer months a clip draw rig might be cooler.
For me, it seems unsafe at first glance.

Carrying during the summer season inspires many different methods of concealment. I prefer holsters, as many I know do, but I have seen many examples of clips used to retain the pistol while riding inside the waist band. The clips I've seen are part of the grip, usually the right side for right hand carry, which clips on the waistband. Most of the pieces which seem to be good candidates for the clip carry are the flat profiling semi-autos or the smaller S&W 5 shot J-Frames.
Speaking for myself; The clip carry is one of the last resorts for concealed carry, unless one buys into the pocket carry or ankle holster.

Do you feel it's an unsafe practice?

Do you feel it's an unsafe practice? TBT; From the grip clips which I have seen, the safety would rest with that of the user, the waistband, and the handgun. Using such a device in the place of a holster would probably warrant a reason. One reason would be maximum concealability for smaller handguns. The whole idea behind having a smaller handgun is concealablity. The real reason must lay behind the lack of clothing required to cover such a weapon. If we are talking about clipping the gun to the waistband of sweat pants, swim trucks, or jogging shorts, I would resign myslf to believe that the weapon would not be securely retained. The issue of safety depends on the safety mechanisms incorporated into the weapon's lockwork. I would think twice before pushing the muzzle of any gun down my pants, holster or no holster. If the safety mechanisms are deactivated by the pull of the trigger, the trigger might become snagged on something in the waistband while the gun is being placed for clip carry. A liitle too close to the family jewels for my own taste.
