This particular pistol is one that Colt Re-Issued a few years ago from the Colt Custom Shop. I purchased this pistol with the intent of modifying a brand new blued Series 70 Colt. The polished blued flats on the carbon steel pistols are what the Colts are highly noted for, and the Series 70 is no exception. This pistol has excellent tolerances of fit with the frame to slide and barrel lockup. I eliminated the long spur hammer in favor of the Nowlin "Speed Demon", I also replaced the factory trigger with the fitted Dlask, which has a light Magnesium Shoe, and Titanium Stirrup. Other items I added was the EGW Sear, Briley Disconnector, Nowlin Full Length Guide Rod with reversed plug, Wolff Springs, a King's Thumb Safety, and a fitted Ed Brown Beavertail High Ride Grip Safety. The trigger now breaks at 3 lbs., with almost zero take up and zero overtravel.....The grip maker that made my Ivory Grips : ....The Fitted Ed Brown High Ride Beavertail Grip Safety:

Looks Great D.A. and I'll bet its no slouch when it comes to performance. Similar mods can be done to a current series 80 ..... Eh?

Looks Great D.A. and I'll bet its no slouch when it comes to performance. Similar mods can be done to a current series 80 ..... Eh? That, and much more; Flipper. The Colt Govt. Model, in series 70 and 80, is probably the most customized pistol on the planet. When I say customized, I am referring to modifying the standard factory model to the owners own specifications and requirements. Because the Colt had become so popular over the years, most aftermarket parts for the 1911s are based on the dimensions of the Colt. A marketing ploy by other manufacturers was to build their factory 1911s with most of these modifications as a package deal. Custom manufactured pistols are those built from the ground up, using the skill of master pistolsmiths rather than that of assemblers.

I know what you mean DA. I handled a number of those "marketing ploy" customizations over the last year in my "quest" for my first 1911. Obviously I'm no expert but many, Kimber Eclipse for example, looked phenomenal but didn't quite feel right. The personalized customization appears to be the way to go and is probably more fun to boot. Probably leads to that certain "bond" & "extension of the persona" stuff as well. ;D

It's very difficult to give logic to paying over $700. for a basic Colt when other manufacturers are offering tuned triggers, throated chambers, polished ramps, lowered and flared ports, high ride beavertails, extended thumb safeties, and lifetime warranties. I reckon that might be the reason why many refer to the Colt 1911 as the chevy small block of pistols.
