As with most of the commercial versions of the 1911, the Colt Officer's ACP is the Colt commercial version of the M-15 General Officer's Model, which was manufactured at the Rock Island Arsenal for generals of the U. S. Army and Air Force during the 1970's. The Officer's ACP and Military M-15 both feature a 3 1/2" barrel with a shorter magazine well holding six rounds. Because of it's shorter barrel, grip, and chambering of the .45 acp cartridge; The Officer's ACP gained popularity as a concealed carry option to the Commander and Government Models. Once available in a lighter alloy frame , stainless, or carbon steel, this pistol covered most requirements for a 1911 of it's size. The first time I saw one was 1985, shortly after it's introduction; My first thought was a sawed off version of the Government Model. The one I have is the round top nickel plated carbon steel version. I've modified the recoil system, trigger action, installed a Smith-Alexander Magazine Well, Dual Crimped front Millet Sight, Millet Rear sight adjusted to POA at 15 yards, King's Heavy Barrel Bushing, Cominolli Frame Saver Rod with dual shok buffers, a tapered extended thumb safety, and Wilson Combat's Drop In Grip Safety to preserve the original factory nickel finish.Cominolli Frame Saver, Dual Buffer, Guide Rod
