This is a early Model 57 (no dash), .41 Magnum, 4" barrel. They were produced 1964-1993. This particular revolver bears the early "S" prefix serial number and looks to be either late 1964 or early 1965. UPDATE: I have received a letter from Smith & Wesson Historian Roy Jinks that states this particular M57 left the factory in July 1964. The 1st M57 was shipped in April 1964, so this is an early one. The .41 Magnum was originally intended to be marketed as a police round with it's excellent penetration capabilities. It never really caught on and soon became more of a hunting round.

Nice Revo, TA., I DO get excited about blue S&W revolvers!
My local PD switched to the M-58 way back when. They had a heck of a time getting the lead SWC factory mid-range ammo for duty and the officers had a rough time with factory jacketed 210 grain HP, so they carried reloads for a year or so! Eventaully they switched to the 9mm. Some progress, huh.

An updated picture in the presentation case with what I believe to be the correct grips.
