My introduction to the Sig P-239 was through my brother; The one thing which attracted me to this pistol was it's size, it's caliber, and the functional design. I had already been carrying the Sig P-220, in .45 acp, and was looking forward to a smaller size Sig with a large bore chamber. After seeing the bullet diameter, bullet weight, and velosity of the .40 S&W, with the Sig P- 239, I was convinced that this would be a good pistol for defensive carry.
After purchasing this pistol, in 1998, the first thing I did was find a set of rubber wrap around Hogues to replace the factory grips; At the time the grips had just came out for the 239. Another purchase I made was the 357 sig barrel and some 357 sig magazines; I later acquired some hogue wood grips.
The 239 operates in the same manner as it's full size brothers in the P-Series SIG line up. The recoil spring is of the flat wound wire to accomodate more coils in the short space of it's 3.6" inch barrel length.Without the magazine, the 239 weighs 27.4 oz., 2.1 oz. lighter than the P-229. With it's shorter barrel length and lower profiling single stacking grip, the 239 edges out the 229 for concealability but it sacrafices magazine capacity with 7 rds, as opposed to the standard 10 rds, and 12 rds in the 229 for the .40 S&W and 357 sig.
The Sights are Trijicon Tritiums, which work well in night or daylight.
