The Miami Vice television series impacted the careers of not only those in the starring roles, such as one Don Johnson, it also impacted the business of one certain holster manufacturer. This leather shoulder holster featured a horizonal cant, set for a cross draw, retaining the pistol with a thumb snap release strap, which placed the retaining strap between the hammer and the firing pin on a 1911, with a double magazine pouch on the opposite side of the X-Style harness. One feature about the harness was the fact that it was easy to put one, requiring no belt connection, and it looked cool. On the double action triggers of pistols like Sig Sauers, the retaining strap rides over the hammer. In the aftermath of Miami Vice, I was seeing alot of counter guys wearing the same holster rig, as with many plain clothes cops, and saw it used in many movies since, including Die Hard with Bruce Willis. Produced By Michael Mann, of "Heat" and "Collateral" (among a few), the screen version of an updated version of Miami Vice is scheduled for 2006. One of the pistols carried by the leading character, Sonny Crockett, was the Bren Ten, among a few others, including the BDA ( Sig 220), S&W 645, and S&W 4506.

These are two of my own Miami Classic holsters from Galco. The one on top is of the original design manufactured during the popularity of the Miami Vice series; a Sig 220 rides in the holster. The holster on the bottom is one of more current design, with a 1911.
