When I was a little stinker, my dad mentioned that he had an air pistol in the attic. Naturally, I thereafter bugged him relentlessly to see it. He acquiesced eventually and brought it out for me to look at. I was severely bummed to find out that it didn't take the common 12g cartridges we bought for it, but something smaller. He bought me a Crosman 760 air rifle instead. That's another story. It's a Plainsman 175 CO2 air pistol made by the Healthways company. Based on a bit of internet research that wasn't available back then, it turns out it takes 8g seltzer bottle cartridges that you can allegedly still obtain. The 175 refers to the caliber of the BBs that you are supposed to fire through it. Lead coated steel shot I hear. Internet research (that you can always trust) says more common .177 are fine to shoot through it. For some reason, the little plinker came to mind today and I dug it up to see what it was. Perhaps it was worth something. It is. About $40. My dad isn't a firearms enthusiast, but he did leave me my favorite J.C Higgins .22 rifle, that little air pistol and his Daisy Red Ryder. I doubt I'll ever shoot it, but I'm glad to have it.
