I stopped into Gander Mountain last weekend to kill about a half hour before a guitar recital. I know I've mentioned somewhere that I've been looking for just the right jr rifle for my son and daughters, but I've lost it in the sea of thread drift that we love so much here. While I'd love to pick up a Ruger 10/22 youth, I think a bolt action is a better choice for learning. I want to promote fewer aimed shots rather than "increasing the lead to air ratio". A magazine of some sort and quality construction are a must, and an American made firearm would really put it on top. I almost found it. Marlin makes a rifle similar to my 883 called a 915Y (outh). I was looking at the stainless version they had on the rack. Bolt action, solid workmanship, (though the stock was rather plain), and made in USA. www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/BoltAction22/915ys.aspSo close, yet it's a single shot rifle. If they'd only put the tube magazine under the barrel, I'd have it at home by now.

I like the fact that it is magazine fed vs having the tube feed. It is also nice that it has the Accutrigger.

I kind of like tube fed over magazine feeds, as it's easier to load and doesn't protrude, but that one would do just fine. I'll have to see if I can find it locally. Thanks 5OT.

Excellent thread to stumble upon...I've been thinking about picking one of these for my kids.
