"I'm the guy who originally wrote the assualt weapons ban" Joe Biden The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act (VCCLEA; also known as the Biden Crime Law) was an act of Congress dealing with crime and law enforcement that became law in 1994. It is the largest crime bill in the history of the US and will provide for 100,000 new police officers, $9.7 billion in funding for prisons and $6.1 billion in funding for prevention programs which were designed with significant input from experienced police officers. [1] Sponsored by U.S. Representative Jack Brooks of Texas, the bill was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton.
Following the 101 California Street shootings and other high-profile instances of violent crime, the act expanded federal law in several ways. One of the most noted sections was the Federal Assault Weapons Ban. Other parts of the act provided for a greatly expanded federal death penalty, new classes of individuals banned from possessing firearms, and a variety of new crimes defined in statutes relating to immigration law, hate crimes, sex crimes, and gang-related crime.

Is there any chance that a liberal might actually understand that there won't be police there to protect them all the time because that isn't the role of the police - they investigate crimes.
I do agree that you don't want guns in the hands of certain people, and that the more guns that there are on the street, the greater the chances that they will fall into the hands of the wrong people. If I didn't have money, my kids were hungry, and somebody offered me $500 for my Jennings (not the engraved one of course ;D ), I'd be very tempted to make a sale.
If there were no guns in the world, I think the world would be a somewhat safer place. The people in China don't have guns and they don't have the crime rate that we have here in the US. Pull a knife on someone in China and you had better hope it isn't Jackie Chan. They do practice marshal arts for protection. However, if you pull a knife, are caught and tried, you will go to prison for a long time. Their prisons are a lot different than ours: no bleeding heart liberals or judges to get reduced sentences.
Unfortunately, when Japan invaded China they shot and killed the men and raped the women. The Chinese were sheep that couldn't protect themselves - no guns.
So the "weapons ban" should include all weapons, knives, forks, anything that could do harm to someone else.
When the Somali pirates come to our shores, we will have an ample police force to protect us - if our laws allow it. Speaking of laws: how stupid is this:

TMan; I had the chance to have my questions answered while at a meeting with one my elected officials last week. I began by telling him I was concerned gun owner, this how he answered. Let me remind everyone, this not the end; The Government is now conducting their own experiments on the success rates of the "Play Dead" arts of self defense. Many prefer this later method to the run hide techniques, because of over weight issues.

They should blow the pirates out of the water. That is something they may understand instead of catch and release all the time.I would think they would slow down a bit when they are being shot all to H-ll in their attack boats. No mercy at all. They have killed honest sailors so its time to really shoot back.
