On the other board there was a post that gave the rules for including pictures in posts. It had someting about the size of the photo. Since my camera typically takes 3MB pictures, I need to reduce, but to what resolution?

I recommend that you save a "posting version" of your photo as a jpeg and then size it to no more than 600x480, which should be plenty adequate for the Forum.

in addition, left click on the file and go to properties. The file size should be under 80K or so. under 50K is really nice, under 80 is OK. over 100K is horribly slow. You can reduce colors to 256 and optimize them to reduce file size as well.
I REALLY wish I had saved that dissertation I had written on posting pictures.......

I'm no expert, and just getting started with posting images on the forum. To make things easier for me, I download my images to my MSN Group photo area from my computer file, the group site will process the size and optimization features of the image for me. I then move the images from my MSN Group area to my image provider, using no optimization because it has already been done.

Pictures must be hosted somewhere on the internet on a server available 24/7. Since this thread was started, I've posted several pictures with the picture being available on the manufacturers web-site. Guess what? Manufacturers discontinue guns and move things around on their web-sites. When that happens the picture is gone. I've also published my own pictures on web-space provided by my ISP, but after many years changed ISPs when fiber-optic became available in my neighborhood. I then had to move messages. There are several places that will host free pictures on the web. One that I've found very easy to use is tinypic.com After uploading your picture, it gives you the address that you can cut and paste into your post. This is their second entry with the title: "IMG Link: for forums and bulletin boards"If you use another service, clicking on the tag (the 4th tag on the bottom row under "Add Tags:") will give you the starting and ending tags to put around the url for your picture. This is what the tag will look like with the exception of an extra space between the opening and closing brackets that I added: [ IMG]http://i9.tinypic.com/4ihaohg.gif[/IMG ] Without the spaces it would look like this:

I first started using Village Photos as a free service, then upgraded to a bi-monthy pay service to store and post my pictures. I learned to first compress my pictures, using the MSN Group pages, I then store thos evenly compressed photos on a desk top file and upload to my Village Photo account from there. I really don't take full advantage of my village photo account for what it offers. I do plan on posting more pictures of interest in the near future.

I think the easiest thing I have found for resizing pictures is a free tool supplied by Microsoft - providing you are running XP. It is called the "Image Resizer" and is part of the Microsoft XP Power Tools: www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspxThe tools are listed along the right-hand side of the page. If you scroll down you will see the Image Resizer. Once you install it on your system, when you right-click on an image, it gives you options for easily reducing the size.

Wait a minute. In the "to this" did you change the grips or was that art work that you did on the computer?
Also you show a "Sig Switzerland" patch, but the guns are Sig Sauer, which are made in Germany. Did you think you were going to blow that one by me?

...TMan; From This to This....I used a different camera and resized the image.
...The SIG Patch was given to me by Sig Sigarms, at The 1999 Shooting Hunting Outdoor Trade (The Annual SHOT Show), in Atlanta.

...Back to the Photo Images : .....My images are adjusted to my own computer monitor screen, which might be lighter or darker than other screens. ....Another feature that I began using is a back light table, with two low watt bulbs and a thick diffuser in between the glass and the bulbs. I combined this back light screen table, with two side lamps, with diffusers. and an overhead lamp with two 60 watt bulbs, with a hanging diffuser. ....The Diffusers reduces glare and distributes the light evenly over the object image. ....Another helpful hint is to use a Tripod, to reduce camera movement.

DA, that last picture looks a little washed out. Are you using Auto Exposure? If so, don't let it use matrix metering because it will pick up your backlighting.

TMan; That is reason I mentioned the screen....When I adjust the image brightness , I might get the image too bright....I will darken it of my photo bucket tools.....I will need your input again on this. Thanks.

TMan; I use Spot Metering and on the back lighting, I use two 15 watt bulbs with a 1/8 inch thick plastic diffuser.....I might have to get another screen, unless I can go to my Son's computer to do a exposure check.

I maybe a little behind the times, but I noticed the "Attachment" on Proboards, which will let you attach a picture with a maximum size of 1MB.
The advantage of this is that it shows a reduced image at the end of your post, but if you are interested and want to see a larger version, you just click on it.
Of course if you have multiple pictures or want text below... There are limitations. However, I think it is neat that it shows a reduced size in the post for people that are in Crappyland with a slow internet connection.
