I've seen the DEA video before. sad, scary and funny. I love the bit where he talks about how highly trained he is just before he shoots himself. Then he tries to show them another gun and tells them it is unloaded...

Well, actually it's a Glock 22, chambered in .40 S&W, but I'm not "professional enough" to correct him.

This also happened to the thumb of an experienced shooter (semi-autos) when he shot my 460XVR. He was fortunate that the gun was new and there was a tight fit with the forcing cone. He got burned, but not too badly.
I was on his right side and didn't see where his weak hand was. Since the S&W X-frame is such a big gun, I could understand why he did it.

This a picture of Eldren Bell, Our County Commissioner. Before that He was a cop for the City Of Atlanta. He retired has a cop after he spent 4 years as The Chief of Police for Atlanta. He still know how to hold a revolver.
