For my own preference, I found out that my carbon steel handguns absorbs the recoil a lot better that the stainless guns. Although, I although have one exception to that fact; This with my S&W 629 Deluxe Classic.

Why is this true? Is it a difference in the weight? Surely the carbon metal doesn't compress to absorb energy does it?

TMan; I have never a Stainless Steel Construction Hammer, but I have owned Dropped Forged Steel Hammers.
The difference to me is the shock absorbing properties of the Carbon Steel over Stainless Steel Revolvers. The Semi-Auto might tell a different tale because of the recoil spring, the thickness of the metal, the fitting of the parts, or the caliber.
