There was various Rust Preventives being tested : "These were: Birchwood Casey Sheath, Boeshield T-9, Break-Free LP, Break-Free Weapon Wipes, Brownells Cosmoline, Brownells Rust Preventive No. 2, Hoppe's Lubricating Oil, Rig Universal Grease, and Tetra Gun Lubricant. To curb my own curiosity, I also threw in a couple extra lubricants – Valvoline 5W-30 motor oil and the universally recognized WD-40."

Wow, that is an eye-opener. Good thing I live in a relatively dry climate. One thing I do is to wipe down the exterior with a silicone cloth prior to putting the gun away. Hope that is a good idea.

humid is the norm here in the summer, my guns get wiped down with oil 20w50 or gun oil, guns that go into longer term storage get wiped with a grease on the outside and thick oil inside. My safe has a couple pounds of dessicant in it. Speaking of that, I need to dry it out again. Most of my guns come with a pile of cosmoline in/on them. takes several days to get them properly cleaned up.
