After a thorough search of at least 15 of my local gun stores, shooting ranges, and walmarts around town I can find no .380, .45 or 9mm ammo and it is driving me crazy. One place the salesman even said, "I've got .45 ammo, but I am not allowed to sell it unless you buy a new gun and even then you can only buy 2 boxes!" I have spent 6 weeks looking for ammo and come up with nothing.
So I am looking at alternative places to buy ammo on the internet and am wondering if those of you out there can give me good places you have used in the past.
Also, is it just Boise that is being hit with this no ammo anywhere or is it all over the nation? Thanks for any help.
(PS. I know we had this discussion several years ago on internet ammo, but could not find the thread hence the new post.)

I don't know if it is the best place or not, but I have had some degree of sucess in getting hard to find stuff from: WWW.MIDWAYUSA.COMI don't understand some of their logic, but some ammo they list as out of stock and you can't backorder, and on others you can backorder.

Thanks T-Man. I will check that one out. Anyone here used Georgia Arms? They seem to have some good deals except they are out of stock on everything it seems! georgia-arms.com/

Long Time No See Drake; I have been using Georgia Arms Ammo since 1989. I use their Gold Dot + Power Plus, their FMJ, and their reloads.

Nice to see you two DA and yes, it looks like Georgia Arms has great deals, but the stuff I want still says 7 to 10 weeks backorder. Glad to see you are doing well. I am mostly looking for .380 ammo as I bought a new ruger lcp for summer time front pocket carry. I have had it about 2 months now and really like it a lot. The size, weight and concealabilty vs my glock 26 is huge! Talk to you soon and thanks for the confirmation that GA is reputable.

One more question, does this have to ship to ffl or will midway or GA just ship to your house? It looks like midway says it comes UPS ground, but that seems too easy to me. Their FAQ sections dont mention anything.. just wondering. Thanks.

Yes, Midway ships UPS Ground. It is the only way that they will ship an order that contains ammo. I live in Texas and even with UPS Ground it gets here PDQ.

Drake,
Check your Wal-Marts, sporting goods stores and ranges toward the end of the week. They sell out on the weekends and are not resupplied early in the week. I have found Thursday to be a good ammo-shopping day.
Be prepared to pay more than you would like. Our local range has three brands of FMJ available in 9 mm. Two are $15.97 and one is $13.97 (box of 50). I can't even tell ya how much the self-defense ammo is. It's very high. I have my own hoard of that bought weeks, mostly months, ago.
.380 ACP? Forget it. The resurgence of that caliber in popularity, witness your Ruger, has made it hard to find as hens' teeth. And, there are 5-6 new models coming out in that caliber. And, nobody reloads that little stuff. I have found one box, imported, of HPs in that caliber in the past month or so. It was purchased by a friend. Yes, ask your friends to pick you up a box or two for ya if they see it. Use your network!
Be on the lookout of imported stuff, like Monarch. They have brass and non-brass products.
I saw in a newsletter from a gun auction site that now is the time to buy ammo. The situation is not going to get better for some time.
One theory I heard from a counter guy at the range was the ammo makers were behind because of the surge of ammo buying after the fall election, combined with all the manufacturers taking a holiday break that put them even further behind in production. He expected the situation to resolve in a few weeks.
Not sure I buy that theory.

Of course with the ammo shortage making national news, (I believe Georgia Arms was part of the story), the problem will be worse, at least in the short term. I have plenty of ammo in rifle calibers, except I'd like some more .223, but it is my handgun calibers that are lacking. Ammo I bought to put in storage and shoot someday has been turning out to be a great investment, unlike my stock market investments. I've sold some ammo for 5-6x what I paid for it 2yrs ago. I have more 8mm than I think I could shoot in my life, unless I happen upon a full auto 8mm.
