The popular grocery store chain Kroger has installed signs prohibiting the lega carry of concealed firearms on store premises in their hometown stores in Cincinnati, OH. A bunch of us over on 1911forum emailed them to inform them we would boycott Kroger stores where we lived if they didn't reverse the policy. Like some others, I'm mailing in my Kroger Plus cards with a letter, though I'm sure it will hit the circular file. The buzz is that Kroger plans to spread this policy to all their stores, but even if they don't, I can't conscientiously patronize their stores. The only visible result of the emails has been that their CEO has removed his email contact from public view on their website.

Around my parts, we would have an organized Boycott, for sure. I do not think I would stand alone on this one here. Too many grocery chains to put up with that kind of arogance from one.

It has become a pretty big stink in SW OH for those that carry. (OH just started issuing permits in 4/04) OH has bans, but the stores just over the borders in KY, and IN have no bans. I guess we Ohioans aren't to be trusted. For those interested, here are some of the other that kroger owns: Kroger operates 3334 grocery and convenience stores in at least 32 states under the Kroger, Ralphs, King Soopers, City Market, Dillons, Smith’s, fry’s, QFC, Kessel, Cala Foods/Bell Markets, Owen’s, JayC, Hilander, Gerbes, Payless, Food4Less, Foods Co., Fred Meyer, Turkey Hill, Kwik Shop, Loaf ‘N Jug, Quik Stop, and Tom Thumb brand names. Kroger also operates 440 jewelry stores under the Fred Meyer, Littman, Barclay, and Fox's brand names. www.kroger.com/customercomments.htmCEO Mr. David Dillon CEO, Kroger Corp. 1014 Vine Street Cincinnati, Ohio 45202-1100 Kroger Headquarters 513-762-4000 david.dillon@kroger.com Division Manager Mr. Bob Hodge Division Manager, The Kroger Company 150 Tri-County Parkway Cincinnati, OH 45246 Division Office 513-782-3300 Thanks for your help

Whenever I hear about some big-bucks company trampling on our rights, or giving large sums of money to the enemies of our rights, I simply cease to do business with them. Unless things turn around, like with S&W. I imagine I'll eventually have to grow my own food, build my own generator and communications transceiver, and ride a horse everywhere, unless we manage to take our country back...

Yep, but I think it will help Ohioans more if we let them know we will not be patronizing their stores because of the policy, in writing. If they get a pile of letters with Kroger Plus discount cards attached, they'll get the big picture.

There was a large movie rental chain here in Texas that put up signs prohibiting concealed carry shortly after the concealed carry law passed here. The word is that their lawyers told them that they had better remove them and they did. Their fear was that a CHL holder would get shot during a hold-up and sue them for not allowing them to carry their weapon to defend themselfs. For the first time in recorded history - a lawyer did some good.

Tman, I am so overwhelmed by what you wrote...and the Bar Association didn't want to punt him? Gee, I think I'll refrain from telling any lawyer jokes for a whole day or two

It is great to see that this small battle was won. Each success like this creates a better climate for honest gun owners.

I have to admit that I am suprised (pleasantly suprised) that the signs are coming down.
This little bit of news is very encouraging to those who often write letters to make thier opinions known to big cooperations & our government.

The business communities are learning that those who post signs prohibiting concealed and carry, become potential threats for criminal activity. They are also recieving advice from their attorneys to back off , as well as learning that concealed and carry pertains to the lawful rights of law abidding citizens & customers.

Since the day I found out what the 30.06 sign looks like, I've only seen it in one place, the YMCA gymn and workout area near my home. Don't tell anyone, but I tend to ignore it unless I'm in there working out. I'm sure they don't want the hassle of guys pulling out their guns in the locker rooms and having them stolen out of the lockers. I'm fairly certain it isn't because they don't like concealed weapons.
I've never seen it anyplace else on any store or building.
God Bless the Lone Star State!! (That would be Texas for all you non Texans out there.)
