I have been working on some new things with grips. I pressed a set of Colt Medallions to see how well it would work out. It came out pretty good. I need to refine the procedure a bit, but it will work. I have been checkering quite a bit too. Most of these were test pieces while I was getting used to a new cutter. The bottom pic is a set of Mexican Cocobolo that came out great. It is really beautiful wood.

I'm not wild about checkering, I know it is functional vs. looks, but I really like the ones you show in the top right corner. Wish I had a gun I could use those on. What kind of wood is that?

Thanks DA, I appreciate the compliment. TMan, That is Amboyna Burl. It is beautiful, but expensive wood. I know what you mean about the checkering. I would be happy not doing it, but it seems everybody wants at least partial checkering. I also did some Makarov grips with it.

...Most of these were test pieces while I was getting used to a new cutter. Man, my test pieces for woodworking are pine, poplar, or ash...

I end up with partially finished grips that may have something I don't like about them. They may not fit just the way I like them to or I slipped with cutter. I use those for trying something new.

You can really use just about any hardwood for grips. You can see what I have available on my web-site. I am a little short on grip stock right now, but should have more available in a couple weeks. www.topgunsupply.comTA
