I am looking at a Colt Officer's Model, enhanced as my next project gun, but I need to know....... Does it use a government size grip safety? Different sights due to shorter radius? Anything else besides the obvious? For a decent used one, what should my price range be?

I think it was DA that posted a discussion on what to look for in a used 1911. That was before the last board crashed though.
I saw a colt commander, extra mag, and a ciener .22 conversion kit advertised for $550 that I should look at. I don't want to go looking at it until I know what to look for though.

Xavier; The difference in the size of the rear portion of the Officer's Frame is with the length of the Mainspring Housing. The grip safeties for the series 80 frames are the same with the Officer's, Commander, and those Full length mosdels which feature the Commander hammer, and shorter grip tangs. For the fitted safeties, such as the Ed Brown, and the .250 radius cut, they're all the same, with the exception of the Series 80 and the Series 70. The listings should be in the Brownell's catalog. Same sights. The frame of the Officer's ACP is slightly heavier around the front of the trigger guard, where the guide rod sets in the frame, this is to provide added strength to the frame for the shorter recoil of the 3 1/2" inch barrel. Price varies for these pistols because of the Colt name. These were made only in the Series 80.
