I did not want to tackle that job myself, so I delivered my slide to a local gunsmith yesterday. He says it will be about a week, but I expect he will take longer, always does. I'll post pics when I get it back.

I'd imagine that a satin nickel would look much like hard chrome. Did you consider that finish? I understand that it's one of the most durable.

I almost forgot about something; Whatever you do, Don't use Flitz Polish on the Nickel Finish.

I did consider getting the high gloss, but chickened out. He said some local officers get that done for wear in formal ceremonies. For regular duty, they all go with the satin finish. He does them when he gets a couple in. I figured I would put a small scratch in the gloss finish and get suicidal.

Callahan; If I thought that you would send the slide off, We would might work together in removing the Take Lever, Decocker, Slide Release, and the Trigger and having them nickel plated. The Electroless Nickel process is much different;Take a look.

A hard chrome finish isn't generally shiny at all. Looks a lot like the satin nickel.

A hard chrome finish isn't generally shiny at all. Looks a lot like the satin nickel. I was limited to the two finishes the gunsmith I knew of here in town did. I really didn't want to do a big search or have to mail it off. Mostly, I was tired of looking at all the scratches on the factory-finish slide. I also have another couple of gun projects I wanted to move on to so I got him started.

I almost forgot about something; Whatever you do, Don't use Flitz Polish on the Nickel Finish. So DA, is there any product that can be safely applied to that finish or is it just best to keep it oiled and leave it alone?

I found it's best to the leave finish alone, and just concentrate inside. If the finish was done with Electroless Nickel, I would wipe it down with a soft treated silicone rag.

Here is a P7 that I had hard chromed by Mahovsky's. The slide flats are brushed, but the rest is a fairly matte finish.

I hope my pistol turns out half that good. That's a super nice touch on the slide. I wonder how that's done...

I am not sure if they brush the slide prior to finishing or afterwards. Mahovsky's does a great job and are still fairly reasonable.

A-ha!
Got the P239 back today from the gunsmith. He did a pretty good job and when I assembled it, I thought it basically looked like a new pistol. A bit of an updated look, too, since a dark frame and stainless slide seems pretty common in pistols these days.
I will try to post a picture tomorrow (if the sun ever comes out).

Well, I got the photos ready, though they are not as good as I would like. Now, I just have to get the computer out of the shop! It's ready and I will pick it up in the morning, plus it's supposed to rain all day, so I will probably be able to post since I will be sticking close to home.
I'd rather be on the deer lease, but that's a bad place to be during flooding. We are getting the leftovers from Hurricane Rick tomorrow through part of Thursday. It has gone across Mexico and is heading into Texas along with a cold front.
