I'd imagine that you'd want a wax that isn't one of those cleaning waxes. Those might make a mess of a nice blued finish.

I stay away from the fine cut cleaners, they're too abrasive on the mirror finish of the blue.

Or I've made the old tried and true Finn mix (aka 1/3mix). 1/3 beeswax, boiled linseed oil, turpentine. (I've also made it w pure tung oil as well) works well on wood and metal.
