Ruger SR9c (brushed stainless steel)

So about two weeks ago the wife tells me, "I think I want to get my LTCF and start carrying". Surprised, I told her to make sure she had thought it through and that I completely support her wanting to do so. I also wanted her to pick out her own gun.

I see a ton of threads where guys are always asking "what gun for my wife" and the first thing that comes to my mind is always "how about that one that she likes?"

Took the wife to the local weapon peddler today after work and she laid hands on a lot of different guns. Because of her stature she wanted something smaller but didn't like my 442, wanted something a little more substantial than that.

She came down to two; the M&Pc and the SR9c. She liked the way both felt in her hand but liked the looks of the SR9c better. I guess it's as good a tie breaker as any. I have concerns about buying a first run gun but heh. Someone has to buy these things to see if they work, why not us instead of Tman this time?

The gun feels real good in the hand. Real good. Very officer model 1911(ish). The fit is exceptional and tight. Surprisingly tight actually and enough to make me wonder if this thing is going to need loosened up some at the range before it works right. I have 1000 rounds of RA9TA 127 +p+ burning a hole in my pocket that should do the trick. The trigger is stiff but clean and I like it.

Gun came with 1 ten round mag and one 17 round w/adapter as well as a pinkey ledge thingamabob and a magloader.

Overall I'm very impressed with the gun. I have to admit, I do think it's a looker in person. Nicer than most compacts anyway. Maybe tomorrow I'll take some pictures to post here. If we weren't in the middle of a snow storm (8 inches so far and expecting 12+) I would get it out to the range this weekend but things as they are that probably won't happen until next weekend.

Question: Has she shot a semi-automatic before? If not, pay close attention to where that left thumb is (assuming she is right-handed).

At the range today our former club president had his grand-daughter there. She was shooting a 38 revolver. I noticed she had the left thumb wrapped over the top of the right thumb. I pointed it out to him and if she were to do the same thing with a semi-auto, I would be administering First Aid (I was Range Officer).

He had been watching the target instead of her. (Don't go there guys; I watch everyone for safety sake).

Yeah, she's shot all of my guns at one point or another. And your right, the first time she picked one up that was her instinct to wrap her thumb up over her other thumb right where the slide would come back and clip her.

That seems to be what most people do and its the first thing I check when a new shooter picks up one of my guns (during instruction).

By the way, 26" of snow so far and counting. And the best part is my driveway/private lane is about 500 yards long.

Anyone wanna come help me shovel?

Actually no, I've shoveled enough. I lived in Rome, NY for 9 years, which gets a lot of lake-effect snow from Lake Ontario.

Two weeks after returning from Vietnam, I was stationed at Griffis, AFB in Rome to serve out my remaining 9 months. We had over 6 feet of snow on one weekend. My wife was from San Antonio and had never seen snow before. She learned how to shovel very quickly.

TBT, you don't actually shovel 500yds, do you? surely you have a tractor, truck, blower, or a good friend?
I'll be heading out to move another 1-2feet of snow out of my driveway in a couple hours - if the wind dies down.

Hey guys, I just hate being left out. We are going to get snow here tomorrow!!!! They said that we may get up to an inch. Let's see, considering the length of my driveway..... and inch of snow... carry the 1... Yes, I might even get a whole shovel full out of the driveway. ;D ;D

We just got another 6" last night and are expecting another 3-4" tonight. That will be about 36" of snow accumulation this week. Usually we don't get this much. Haven't seen this since 1993. For DA, I was 16 years old then haha.

5ontarget; I started shoveling it. Have a big ol Craftsman but no plow. Traded my truck in a while ago, no four wheel drive. Like I said, we haven't gotten anything like this in 15 years or so. I'm usually fine in my Malibu.

Our neighbor knew a guy that worked for the Township that had a truck and plow. Once he looked at the lane and the amount of snow on it he didn't think his truck would do it so he drove up to the township building and jacked a big ol digger machine and drove it 2 miles back to my house and dug us out with that.
