I'm looking for optics for a .22 pistol. MLB, what was that sight that you have on your Ruger Mark III? I've been looking around, but most of what I'm finding seems too large.

Callahan, I have both the Leupold 2X and 4X handgun scopes on 22's. I like the 2X better than I do the 4X, but I'm shooting off-hand. I imagine if off sticks or the bench I'd probably like the 4X more.
With a handgun shooting off-hand with a pistol, I get a lot of movement, which doesn't appear too bad with me focused on the front sight using open sights. With a 4X scope I greatly see movement of the cross-hairs on the target. This makes me try to time the gun going off as it crosses the center, and I jerk the trigger and miss by a mile.
Leupold also makes a 2.5 to 8 x 32 handgun scope. I imagine I wouldn't care much for the 8X setting.

Thanks, TMan. I will research them on the Net.
What about red dot halo sights? Have you tried them? I think there is no magnification,I think they are the combat sights they use on M-16s. I suspect that may be what MLB has on his Ruger, though I can't find the pic he posted some months ago.
I'm pretty new to modern optics -- about all I'm familiar with is your standard deer rifle 3x9 40mm.
Thanks again.

I'm not sure where I posted it myself. ;D The one I have is your standard run-of-the mill red dot reflex. Cost me about $100 if I recall correctly. Much better than the cheap $20 p.o.s. like the one I got on ebay: That one doesn't even rate airgun status. Distorted too much outside of the center of field. The reflex works fine. No magnification, it has a small and large dot (3 and 5 moa if I recall correctly). There's also a crosshair and a few other recticle options too. I use the crosshair most often. It is a bit bulky, not that it matters much for a range gun. I've been thinking of going back to iron sights though. I looked up the brand recently for some reason and noticed that this particular model is discontinued. I can check the brand if you're interested, but it's no Leopold.

Is it accurate?

I'll get it out tonight and let you know. Maybe get a few better pics of it as well.

Thanks, MLB. I have been checking Aimshot out on the Web.
Those are great pics, by the way. What kind of lighting do you use? Flash? Probably not. It would wash out the red dot, right?
By the way, I liked your pistol so much I traded my Ruger in for one like yours. Only difference is I got the fluted barrel and I have the stock wooden grips, rather than your target grips.
I just love that pistol. I'm like you -- I need to take it out and shoot it some more. I think those optics might be fun, though. I'll let you know whenever I get around to getting some. Thanks again.

They were just impromptu pics while I was parked on the couch. The first few with the flash were lousy, so I turned on the overhead halogen spotlight and turned off the flash. They are a little blurry since I didn't bother to get the tripod out. There's all sorts of buttons on those cameras, with a little ambition, I probably could have lengthened the exposure and gotten rid of the graininess too.
I managed to get the red dot focused by pointing the camera at the floor first during the auto-focus "half shutter", then shooting through the reflex. Otherwise it focuses on the gun itself and the dot is blurred.
My wife asked me if I perhaps didn't have enough pictures of my "baby". I took about a dozen to get a few that looked good.

..... I took about a dozen to get a few that looked good. That's one of the things I love about digital photography, no wasted film and developing expenses.

I'm going to have to try some indoor lighting. I've had lousy luck with the flash, too. Most of the shots of my own that I have posted here have been taken outside, but even a few of those were troublesome, especially the stainless pistols -- too much reflection.
Thanks again for taking those.
Wives are all the same. Hey, you can never have too many pictures of your babies and grandkids, right?
