Just finished this one up tonight. Not that it was that hard, I was just slow getting all the parts together. It is MUCH easier to put together than an AK, or some of the other guns I've assembled. This was my first AR build. Not much required by way of tools to put one of these together. In case you're wondering, it was cheaper to build mine, but not by much since most of what I used was RRA. I could have gone much cheaper with a scratch build. BTW if you are looking for a really inexpensive stripped AR lower, I just saw these for sale recently. www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=F1SASL&search=receiver

Realized this morning I didn't include anything about the gun. For those that are interested: The upper is RRA 16" chrome lined lightweight barrel with mid-length gas system, Wilson combat flip-up rear sight, and Eotec red dot. The internals are all stock RRA parts. Lower started as a stripped RRA lower, I got a good deal on it and a RRA match trigger set, and finally came another great deal on the RRA buttstock/spring/buffer/tube. I initially wasn't looking to build a RRA, but the deals kept falling in my lap, and I couldn't resist.

You'd think that building one from parts would be more expensive. (Try building a car from parts!)
Looks great. Why both the flip up rear and the EOTech though?

My son has a Rock River Arms he bought assembled and he loves it. I've shot it and it's very accurate.
Did you build it to sell or keep?
What's its intended use?

MLB- I do like to shoot with iron sights sometimes, and I like the ability to co-witness with irons and red dot. I know it is redundant... It also works a little bit as a training tool to see if I get the same cheek weld each time. The telescoping stocks are a bit lower than what I'm accustomed to, and I don't get a consistent cheek weld with it yet. Now the SHTF type, and those in harsh conditions have the flip up BUIS in case the red dot fails, breaks, runs out of battery, etc. I make no such illusions that this gun will see that kind of treatment while I own it. I can lock it down for a sleeker look and just use the red dot if I want. I still need to get both sighted in. Callahan - other than something light and handy to shoot, this was more of a fun project to try/build to see if I could put one together. I'd been playing with com bloc guns for a while and decided I should try an AR build. I have a nice RRA NM 20" HBAR that I bought just before BO was elected and thought it would be nice to have a lightweight version too. I originally bought the upper and just swapped them out on the same lower. Then came this nice group buy/deal on stripped RRA lowers and a couple of options on the trigger sets. Many months later, I had an opportunity to pick up the stock, tube, and rear sight at a great price. All the sudden I had two complete ARs so the short answer to your questions, I plan to keep it, unless someone makes me an offer I can't refuse. As for the intended use, currently, get it sighted in and shoot it at the range. I might take it out to the barn and play commando with some pesky groundhogs and coons that keep moving in up there. When my son is ready to shoot something with a bit more zing, this will be his first gun out beyond the rimfires as it is light and light on recoil. I've got a couple friends that have been trying to get me into competition and 3 gunning, and this might be the rifle for that...IF I try it. Now to go buy a new 1 1/16" wrench for my next project. FAL parts have been cluttering up the spare parts bin, I think I have enough to put one together again. Just need to pick up some more US made compliance parts.
