McChrystal gone because he didn't believe in the Supreme Commander.

Stanley A. McChrystal Fighting Battle Campaigns is not the same as Fighting Political Campaigns

WTF was on the general's mind when he okay'd having a reporter from Rolling Stone, of all publications, come inside his inner circle and take notes. How could he possibly have envisioned a positive outcome?
We have to stop this noble, holier than thou crap if we expect to have a truly successful militaristic action. There ain't no nice, polite way to kill people. Additionally, the public does not need direct access to the upper echelon of our military, nor does it need to know the name of every single serviceman 20 minutes after they die. War by definition is brutal. It just isn't fair to our people in harm's way to do this to them. Mr. President, get your head out of your ass and let our troops fight. Sign an Executive Order banning embedded reporters. Let out troops take off the gloves and do what soldiers are trained to do, PROTECT US BY KILLING OUR ENEMIES. If you insist on holding hands with our enemies and singing Kumbaya, we will never win. Oh yeah, you could also do the right thing and bring back the best general we currently have.

What a doofus...
I remember back when Powell and Stormin' Normin were over in the sandbox and there was a press conference. One reporter was pulling the Vietnam style reporting and asking about body counts, wounded, etc. I think I was Gen. Schwartzkopf that replied something to the effect of, you want counts, I'll give you counts. Dead, one Iraqi army.

Thanks for the links DA; it saved me from having to go buy the magazine, which would have been supporting the rag. Speaking of support: if McChrystal writes a book, I'll buy it. Don't know if I'll find time to read it, but I'll buy it. I can see why I'm not President. If I were President and read the article, I'd promote him to 5-star. ;D There was a saying back during the "big one": "loose lips, sink ships". Too bad McChrystal never learned that. So a left-wing rag brought down a brilliant general. I'm kind of surprised that the ACLU wasn't involved.

McChrystal should have done his homework on Douglas Macarthur & Harry Truman.

DA hit it right on the head. McCrystal didn't leave Obama many options. You simply don't publish insults to the Commander-in-Chief... even if they are true.

True, you surrender your First Amendment rights when you join the military. Allowing interviews by Rolling Stone magazine was not smart. However, I have observed over the years that some of the most stupid things are done by some of the smartest people.
