And the other reason my house has lightning arrestors: I'm evil.

When my next door neighbor, John, lived in west Texas he was out on his front porch one day when lightning hit the tree in front of the house. It knocked him out cold, and he said he hasn't been the same since.
Thursday I was out mowing the front lawn and there were a few clouds overhead. I always wear ear protection when I mow the lawn. Suddenly a few large water droplets started falling. I looked up and there was a fairly dark cloud overhead. I figured a few drops of water wouldn't hurt me. It quickly stopped.
Then there was a brilliant flash of light and a large clap of thunder. I thought of John and said: "Screw this!!!", left the lawn mower in the middle of the yard and ran for the house. The problem with the ear-plugs is that I never heard the thunder until it was too close. Within seconds it poured.
When I moved to Texas I heard the expression "thunderstorms will be firing up". I thought it was some crazy southern term. They mean it - storms actually start here.
Lightning is not something to be taken lightly.

Lightning is not something to be taken lightly. I propose we rename it "Gravening" ;D Mark Twain had some insight on this:
The difference between the almost right word & the right word is really a large matter -- it's the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.
