.....I tore down my Argy Hi-power and cleaned it! I've had it a month or two and just never took the time to strip it. A 4-hour soak in a gallon can of Ed's Red, removed the mag safety plunger and reassembled it. I replaced the crappy stock rap-arounds with Hogues. What do ya'll think?

I just had my Hi-Power out yesterday. One of my favorites. I've been thinking of removing the mag safety, but it appears that the pin in the trigger needs to be pressed out. Did it give you any problems?

No, it didn't. The smallest punch I had was minutely larger than I needed so I used a small nail to punch the pin out. It came out easily and went back in easily. However, your mileage may vary. FYI - I found it's much eaiser to remove the safety plunger if you remove the slide, and of course, the magazine. Tap out the pin on the trigger, and pull the plunger and spring out into the mag well. Make sure the sear stays in it's place on the trigger assembly as you're removing the plunger. The sear will automatically index toward the the mag well in it's recess in the frame - that's where you want it to be. You can replace the pin in the trigger as I did, but it's not neccesary. You can remove the trigger to do this, but you'll need three hands to get the trigger assembly and sear back into the frame!

MLB, I did it to my HP, but I don't recommend it. I think it is better to polish it with flitz and a dremel. Then do the same thing on the magazine where it contacts it. After that apply some slick lubricant to both surfaces. If you ever have to use the gun in self-defense, there are legal implications in having modified the gun.
The HP implementation of the magazine disconnect is probably the worst I've ever seen.
I've modified the engagement angles on mine, and also reformed the trigger return spring to make it lighter. I don't remember what the resulting trigger pull was after the modifications.

It is a home mix that is highly regarded by some. I have never tried it myself.

I found that the military ammo cans works very good for storing solvent. I have a can of mineral spirits that has been stored for over 25 years, that I use to clean paint brushes.
