Thinking that if I shot off-hand, recoil wouldn't bother me so much; I took the VZ-58 to the range today. I don't remember exactly when I bought it, but it was at least over a year ago.
It has a milled receiver and a decent military trigger. You rock the magazines in the same way you do on an AK, and I never got the hang of it on the AK either.
There are a lot of aftermarket things you can get for it, which basically replaces the stock, pistol grip, and forearm. They aren't cheap and I want to see how well it groups off the bench before I get too carried away.
About the only thing I disliked about it is the fact that it won't hold open after the last round. I can't think of anything on the AK that I like better than on the 58, with perhaps the exception being the price. It was more expensive as I recall, but one of the guys that I let shoot it asked me how much it cost, and I had to tell him that I have no idea.
