In the television series Firefly (2002) — and its film sequel Serenity (2005) — Gina Torres plays Zoe Alleyne Washburne, whose weapon of choice is a Mare’s Leg.

Interestingly, when the TV series Star Trek made it's debut in the late 60's the term "science fiction" had not yet been coined. The crtics were grasping for a term to identify this ground-breaking new genre, so since the prominent type of shows on the air at the time were set in the Old West - they called it a "Space Western."
Firefly, and later the movie Serenity, actually took this unusual moniker to a whole new level! The series and movie were sprinkled with bits of the Wild West, the here and now, the distant future, as well as, dashes of random historic and ethnic eras.
It was an odd, eclectic mish-mosh of times, places and peoples - and many veiwers and crtics, alike would set in front of their TV's with their heads tilted to one side and say, "Huh?" But I enjoyed it because it was - like Star Trek - a new, different and sometimes odd look at what might be.
OH! And I almost forgot, Zoe's Mare's Leg was chambered in 44-40 WCF!
