Outraged Daley vows to defend Chicago gun law

The mayor said he would vigorously defend Chicago’s ordinance, in spite of what he called the dangerous precedent set by the nation’s highest court.

At a time when Chicago’s homicide rate is rising by nearly 13 percent and children are being gunned down on city streets, Daley said the Supreme Court has “changed the rules” in a way that will make it far more difficult to protect law-abiding citizens.

Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis today said that 75 percent of Chicago’s murders involve firearms. So far this year, Chicago Police have responded to 15,000 “man with a gun” calls and 27,000 calls of “shots fired.”

And just what use is Daley's Chicago Gun Ordinance , with numbers like this ? Don't sound like Chicago is doing a very good job of "Protecting It's Law Abiding Citizens".

I grew up in the Chicago area, around some of the holidays, the south side gangs would walk down the street firing their guns to celebrate. (Chicagos fine gun laws at work, keeping guns off the street.) Kinda like the footage we see of some middle eastern countries using their AK to celebrate.
It would probably take more manpower and fire power than the CPD could muster, just to bring 4-5blocks to order.
Haven't been back there in a long time, don't know if it still goes on. Probably not as bad now, since they tore most of the "projects" down.

I've lived around the suburbs of Atlanta for most all my life, and we have been getting swarmed with those arriving with section 8 vouchers from all the housing projects, that have been being torn down in the crime infested areas of Atlanta.

It pays to know how to use a firearm now.

DA you are so right!! Here in our town Ohio, the Mayor is sweeping the downtown area and having condos and studio appartments built and promoting new business to come in. That in turn is pushing all of the section 8's out into our area. I am sick of it and ready to seek residence even further away from the city. Last night at 330 am in the Section 8 next to me there were at least 15 people of ages 18- 25 in the drive way drinking ,laughing and hollering. I dressed and went outside yelling over that they needed to break it up on there own or I would help them break it up. Within 10 minutes all was quiet.

Bigdog; Be careful. I hate to hear that this sort of thing is happening in your area too. The one thing saving us is that most of this is happening in the County, outside that of the city limits of the area where we live. Our city is maybe six different cities which lays within the county.

We are the largest city located in the county but we are still run by our old guard of Council members, City Employees, Police, and our Home Owner organization.

We also have our own indoor shooting range, the only one in the entire county. Most of us shoot better than our cops. ;D
