I’m getting the itch to purchase another gun and I always keep coming back to the Sig Sauer P229 Elite. Actually, to be even more specific I’m interested in the P229 Enhanced Elite that hasn’t hit shelves yet (that I know of). It’s got the reduced grip, short trigger, and SRT as well as the increased capacity to 15+1.
I’ve always loved the Sig Elite pistols even though my experience with Sig was less than desirable. I had a P226 that I absolutely hated but that was more of a product of the gun being a POS from CDNN (remember my thread about how loose it was etc). Never been a fan of guns with a higher bore axis but still… something about this gun keeps calling me.
I’m guessing that the P229 E2 Elite will be around $950-$1000 NIB but that’s just a guess. I’m looking to add a higher end 9mm I think but won’t be seriously in the market until after Christmas (four kids…I’m an epic failure at birth control). Just starting to do the homework a little early.
Does anyone have any experience with the SIG Elite weapons? DA? TA (Top Gun Supply getting any word on these?)? Tman… how about you go buy one and Beta-test it for me?

Sorry TBT, but neither the P239 nor P229 have ever interested me.

Can't help you much there, I'm still looking for a P226. Will probably go old school and pick up a fairly early model, just because that's the way I am. Yeah, I know the new ones are supposed to be better, better slide, tac rail, etc, etc.

I've never had much use for rails on guns and don't own a single light/laser attachment thingy. If I want a laser I'll add a Lasermax or Crimson Trace and I'm good holding a flashlight in my free hand.
Tman, take one for the team. I count on you owning and reviewing every firearm on the planet. It's the way my world works and you're knocking it off pivot haha.
Why no interest in those?

I think you're going to have to step up to the X5 TBT. ;-)

TBT, to answer your question the best that I can: I don't always make sense, which is probably the understatement of the year. I'm not too interested in intermediate size pistols. Off the top of my head, I think I only have one Commander size 1911, which is a Wilson Combat one. I don't shoot it any better than my Officer size Kimber. I like either large or small, and I'm not much for in between. It kind of reminds me of something that I read recently in the Bible - book of Revelation: it had to do with churches being hot or cold and God wished they were either vs. being lukewarm. (Since I can't be too far off from meeting my maker, I've become more interested in "Spiritual" things.). Anyhow, Sig Sauer, whom I will not "dis", is constantly coming out with new variations of the same old pistols. Probably the X5 is a good example: look at the variations since they first introduced it. The original, which I have in a very secure place (I can't get to it - sort of like a lot of my money... the IRS can't get to it, nor can I. ), is an excellent pistol. I don't know about the less expensive variations. So, my friend, I think there are other places that I'll expend my budget dollars on. I'm still waiting for the Kimber Centennial and the Walther Royal Scot. I have bought a few new, but that is for another thread, and the Maker's Mark has kicked in; I'm going to bed.

TBT; Thanks for posting this thread on the 229. Most of my Sig Sauers was made before SIG switch hands of ownership and I really don't know much about the new Sig pistols. One thing that I don't like is the rail attachment on the frame's dust cover.

Tman -
Tman, I’m actually the opposite. I’ve always gravitated towards the mid-size guns. I’m pretty big on shooting what you carry and these types of guns seem to fill a niche for me. Not to mention, being smaller in stature (I’m 5’-7”) the smaller “full size” guns seem to fit me best. The P226 swims in my hand and honestly even my beloved government models do a bit too.
My “perfect” all around gun would be a Smith and Wesson M&P9 in a Glock 19 size package with the grip taken down about a half inch. I’ve even gone so far as to Contact David Bowie (Not Ziggy but the phenomenal gunsmith) about switching my M&P9FS to his “Chopper” model. I haven’t because of the insane lead times (it’s something like five months right now to get work done from him). This is also the reason I’m considering adding an M&P45c since it mimics the G19 size almost exactly. I could reacquaint myself with 45ACP carry given the package it comes in.
But to update, since I posted this thread I had the opportunity to hold a P229E2 and honestly, it feels too odd compared to the M&P. I might have to face facts at this point and just come to terms with the fact that I am a full-on die-hard Smith and Wesson M&P junkie and nothing else really feels as good or shoots as good for me.
DA - I’m not sure why every gun nowadays has to have that rail on it. I guess I see the practical application of such a mounting tool but isn’t something like that more useful in dedicated offensive weapons as an option and not a standard? For my money I think it’s absurd to include it on smaller guns that have a dedicated purpose like concealed carry.

Yea; I really don't the rail mounts on the dust covers, because of chances grabbing the lining of the leather holster. My Bianchi leather has soft suede linings several others has pigskin linings or horsehide.
Have anyone ever seen what a plastic holster does to the cylinder of a revolver ? Its not a very pretty sight.
Plastic Holsters might be good for Plastic Pistols but I wouldn't know.

I don’t really have any experience with plastic holsters on revolvers as the only revolver I’ve ever owned was a Smith and Wesson 442 that I pocket carried. As far as plastic holsters on plastic guns, I’ve never noticed any unusual holster wear on my Glock 19 from the UCH I ordered from Tom a while back. I prefer leather though. Even if I’m just shoving a fugly-ass plastic gun in it haha.
You don’t own anything polymer DA? No Glock, SIGPRO, HK, SW, XD, nothing like that in the lineup? I find them to be great carry pieces and fighting handguns. Nothing to look at, but I don’t really want to be lugging expensive all-metal guns around with me constantly.
