Oh mother!!!! I know why they named it the Hellcat. The bottom of the frame hits the middle of my ring finger. After 5 rounds, I had 4 holes in the target and a red welt on the inside of my ring finger. The only thing worse than this is my S&W 357 Magnum.
The Ruger LCP isn't a lot of fun to shoot, but this thing just really hurts.
It is small, it is light, it comes with an inside the belt pocket holster, and it is easy to field-strip. It is a little strange though:
Insert a magazine, rack the slide, and look at the back of the pistol. You can see the hammer. As you pull, and pull, and pull on the trigger, the hammer moves further and further back until the gun goes bang.
If the gun does not go bang, assuming you have run out of ammo (no slide hold open capability), or better yet:a light strike failed to ignite the primer, you can't just pull the trigger again. The hammer is no where to be seen; it is now down inside the pistol. Much the way the Glock puts a pre-load on the striker, this little demon puts a pre-load on the hammer.
Of the 380's that I've shot, the DB380 is by far my favorite. I still would like to have the Magnum Research micro 380, but I would not enjoy the long wait in the emergency room waiting to have my hand sewed up. (You have to queue up behind all the Mexicans that have a cold and don't have money to go to a doctor).

The Jennings were feeling lonely.

The Jennings were feeling lonely. No, this doesn't reach to the Jennings quality, or lack there of, standards. ;D ;D ;D There is nothing wrong with the Hellcat and I would trust my life to it as soon as I would to any other 380 pistol. It just isn't any fun to shoot, nor is what I normally carry, the S&W 360.

Yeah, actually the quality looks quite good on the Hellcat, at least as good as the Rugers and Kel-Tecs. Check out the video: www.gunblast.com/IO-Hellcat.htm

So I took the Hellcat, complete with its "spare no expensive" cardboard box to the range today. I loaded 5 rounds and passed it to Ed complete with a $hit eating grin on my face. He did manage to hit the target 3 out of the 5 shots at 7 yards.
It is probably a very good buy, and it does function well i.e. not a Jennings, but it is not fun to shoot.
Ed agreed - not fun to shoot.
